About the Awards
The 25th Anniversary SBAAT Awards Lunch was held at The Royal Palace of Holyrod in Edinburgh on Thursday 26th April 2007.
Over 500 people attended the event which raised over £100,000 for Scottish Charities.
Winners 2007
The Scottish Business Achievement Award - Ian Marchant, Scottish and Southern Energy plc
Ian Marchant was appointed Chief Executive of Scottish and Southern Energy plc in October 2002 having been finance director since 1998. Ian previously worked for Coopers & Lybrand, including a two year secondment to the Department of Energy working on electricity privatisation. Ian is Chairman of the United Kingdom Business Council for Sustainable Energy. SSE's profit before tax in 2006 rose by 19.2% to £858m.
The Young Achievers Award - John Scott, Scott Timber Limited
John Scott took over as managing director of his family saw mill business, Scott Timber, in 1990 at the age of 18. In 2006 the group acquired Crofton Pallets to make in one of Europe's leading pallet manufacturers. Also in 2006 the group was awarded Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year. The company has established an overseas operation in Latvia. Since John took over he has seen turnover of £96K and a trading loss build up to over £58m in turnover and is now on target to achieve turnover of £150 million by 2009.
International Award - Alasdair Locke, Abbot Group plc
Alasdair Locke founded Abbot Group in 1992, having been involved in the oil industry since 1974, and floated the company in 1995.
He has established Abbot Group as a world leader in drilling facilities design, construction and operation with a significant presence in Germany, Dubai, Siberia and Texas - the acquisition in 2006 of Songa Drilling in Norway was a significant step and they now employ over 4,600 people around the world. Turnover in 2006 increased by 69.8% to $1,162.9m.
